How does the Roof Insurance Claims Process Work?

When the unexpected strikes and damages your roof, navigating the insurance claims process can seem daunting. However, understanding the steps involved can streamline the process and ensure a smoother experience. Here's a comprehensive guide to help you navigate the roofing insurance claims process effectively:

1. Initial Assessment / Roof Inspection:

  • Schedule Inspection: Coordinate with your insurance company to schedule a roof inspection. It's advisable to be present during the inspection to provide additional context and address any concerns.

  • Documentation: Present the documentation of the damage you've collected, including photos and videos, to the insurance adjuster. They will assess the damage and determine the coverage.

  • Document Damage: After a storm or incident, have your roof inspected by a trusted roofing company. Make sure to analyze their photos or videos to document the extent of the damage. BEWARE: Some companies may tell you to file a claim with insufficient damage.

2. Contact Your Insurance Company:

  • Notify Your Insurer: Contact your insurance company as soon as possible to report the damage. Provide them with all necessary details, including the date of the incident, extent of damage, and policy information.

  • Claim Number: The insurance company will assign a claim number and may schedule an inspection of your roof by an adjuster.

3. Review Your Policy:

  • Understand Coverage: Review your insurance policy carefully to understand the coverage limits, deductibles, and any exclusions related to roof damage. Familiarize yourself with the terms and conditions of your policy to avoid surprises later in the process.

4. Obtain Estimates:

  • Find a contractor you feel comfortable working with and reference our homeowners guide for what questions to ask.

5. Approval and Payment:

  • Receive payment from insurance for ACV (Actual Cash Value amount of all line items that were paid for on the claim minus your deductible). If any supplements are sent in and approved there will be additional checks sent for each time it is approved. Depreciation will be released once the work is completed and the cost is incurred. The ACV, plus the deductible, plus the depreciation will equal the total RCV (Replacement Cost Value amount).

  • Claim Approval: Upon approval of the claim and estimates, your insurance company will issue a payment for the covered repairs or replacement. The payment may be made in one lump sum or in multiple installments, depending on the insurer's policies.

  • Contractor Selection: Select a qualified roofing contractor to perform the repairs or replacement. Ensure that the contractor is licensed, insured, and experienced in handling insurance claims.

7. Completion of Repairs:

  • Work Commencement: Coordinate with the chosen contractor to schedule the commencement of the roof repairs or replacement. Ensure that the work adheres to local building codes and manufacturer specifications.

  • Final Inspection: Upon completion of the repairs or replacement, conduct a final inspection to ensure that the work meets your satisfaction and the insurer's requirements.

8. Follow-Up:

  • Documentation: Keep records of all communication, documentation, and receipts related to the insurance claim and roof repairs. These records may be useful for future reference or in the event of any disputes.

  • Feedback: Provide feedback to your insurance company regarding your experience with the claims process. Constructive feedback can help improve their services and benefit other policyholders.

By following these steps and staying organized throughout the process, you can navigate the roofing insurance claims process with greater ease and confidence. Remember to communicate effectively with your insurer, gather necessary documentation, and enlist the help of reputable professionals to ensure a successful outcome.

After the work is completed we will submit all documentation and photos to the insurance company so they will release the depreciation on the line items that were completed.

Our Roof Inspection Process

Step 1: Initial Consultation

Our process begins with an initial consultation to discuss your concerns and needs. During this phase, we gather essential information about your roof's age, material, history of repairs, and any specific issues you've noticed. This helps us tailor our inspection to address your concerns effectively.

Step 2: Visual Inspection

  • Exterior Evaluation: Our certified inspectors conduct a comprehensive exterior examination of your roof. This includes checking for visible signs of damage, such as missing shingles, cracked tiles, damaged flashing, and wear around chimneys and vents.

  • Interior Evaluation: We also inspect the interior of your home for signs that indicate roof problems, such as water stains, mold, and light coming through the attic.

Step 3: Detailed Assessment

Using specialized tools and technology, we assess the condition of your roof more closely. This may involve moisture detection, thermal imaging, and other diagnostic techniques to uncover hidden issues and assess the integrity of your roofing structure.

Step 4: Gutter and Downspout Check

An integral part of our inspection includes evaluating your gutters and downspouts. Proper drainage is crucial to preventing water damage, and we ensure your gutters are clear, properly aligned, and functioning as they should.
